Generals always fight the last war.

It’s raining oil in Tehran today. And raining money in the c-suites of U.S. oil and gas companies who would be in very poor financial health if it wasn’t for the Russian invasion of Ukraine and now this new war of choice. Blood money is the business model of big oil and gas at this point. They can’t bomb all the renewable energy so they are bombing their own industry to create shortages and profits. They are not long-term thinkers.

Remember this from before these latest wars?

“Companies like Exxon, Boeing, and Delta are being labeled zombies because they are currently unprofitable and have taken on considerable fresh debt to weather downturns in their businesses,” Colas said. “At the same time, all 3 are expected to return to profitability or at least break even in 2021 and all are off their 2020 stock price lows.”

All it took was funding the white supremacists, putting the insurrectionist back in power in the U.S. and two wars to fix their business model.  Mission accomplished for Big Oil.

The Energy Dominance Terror Campaign

Oil seems headed well over $100 for a bit. Trump and his crew of amateurs seem worried. Trump promised the U.S. would just bring out their guns and insurance and so everyone should just feel free to run their oil and LNG through the Straight of Hormuz.  However, no one seems to want to go all Mad Max and take up that offer.  Can you blame them?  Maybe someone would be more willing if there hadn’t been an LNG tanker taken out with an unmanned drone recently. Ships full of hydrocarbons are pretty risky when it’s raining explosives. These are going to be difficult problems to solve especially because Epstein is no longer around to offer the advice so many of these people relied on. But don’t worry, Jarrod is on it.

"Ultimately, we're not going to have to worry about these issues in the Strait of Hormuz because we're going to get all of the oil out of the hands of terrorists," Jarrod Agen, executive director of the National Energy Dominance Council, said during an appearance on FOX Business.

This is coming from a representative of a government that recently killed a bunch of people while kidnapping the government of Venezuela (world’s largest oil reserves) and then did Israel’s bidding by joining the Iran war after Israel coached Senator Lindsey Graham on how to sell the war to Trump.

Who are the oil-hungry terrorists again?

You remember energy dominance, right?  We were told that energy prices were too high in the U.S. because of the democrats.  Once Trump was elected the U.S. oil and gas would flow again, the days of the Biden admin would be over and there would be 3 million new barrels of oil a day produced right here in the old U.S. of A.

"Three million more oil barrels equivalent a day from U.S. energy production. That would be my 3-3-3. That would substantially decrease the oil price, which – that's one of the No. 1 drivers of inflation expectations," [Bessent] said.

And of course, there would be no new wars. They said that a lot, too. Do you know what Jarrod Agen did in his career before being executive director of the National Energy Dominance Council?  Crisis communications. That should come in handy as he and the people running the show in the U.S. have little understanding of what they are doing to global energy markets.

Meanwhile, the U.S. media is still awash in propaganda about U.S. oil and gas production. In late 2024 I wrote this:

“The true hoax of this energy transition is the idea that the U.S. has unlimited oil and gas that is just waiting to be produced as soon as those tree-hugging liberals stop standing in the way.”

The oil isn’t there in the U.S. For some reason no one has asked Bessent or Trump where it is but with the various wars and invasions they seem to have avoided that question.

However, the propaganda continues. The Wall Street Journal wants everyone to know that the “frackers” in the U.S. could produce more oil, they are just choosing not to. Look at this headline:

The article (available here without paywall) makes some interesting claims that make it seem like U.S. fracked oil (also known as unconventional or tight oil) is at record levels and could go higher but the companies are choosing not to, despite their technical prowess.

“The Energy Information Administration expects the national oil output to have hit about 13.7 million barrels a day in February, up nearly 600,000 barrels from when Trump took office.”
“But these gains have been the fruit of technical prowess in the field, not the pursuit of growth. Shale companies have become proficient at drilling fewer but much longer horizontal wells, which allows them to trim costs and still extract more crude. They routinely frack multiple wells at the same time and do so virtually around the clock, which also saves on costs.”

It’s a compelling argument.  The shale giants have apparently been driving new oil production with their superior technologies and it’s been a boom under Trump.  But is that true?

So, despite Trump and Bessent whipping up their cult with chants of “Drill, baby, Drill,” a phrase popularized by that known deep thinker, Sarah Palin, they ain’t. Because the oil isn’t there. More details on that here.  U.S. oil growth has been increasing due to increases in offshore production, not fracked oil. Offshore oil production will likely increase if $100 oil is the new norm but that would likely require endless war.

Trump and his evil clown show of advisers might understand the reality that the U.S. can't increase oil production (and if they did it would just mean a faster decline in the near future) and thus want to control more of the world’s oil for this reason or just because they think they can. I don’t know if these people are stupid or lying, but I do know they are evil and not constrained by any of the rules in the Bible they claim is their guiding light. Trump doesn’t have a long time horizon. The world will continue using a lot of oil as long as he is alive. It’s clear he does not care about what happens after that. Remember when he told people that if a plane crashed and everyone died he wouldn’t care because he wasn’t on the plane?  Or when he called U.S. troopers losers and suckers?  So, this may all work out for his timeline.  But Little Marco and the Hillybilly Nazi will likely be around for a bit longer and there will likely be consequences for these choices.

Generals Always Fight the Last War

Winston Churchill supposedly said that “generals always prepare to fight the last war.”  I think of that a lot when I look at what the U.S. is currently doing with its military and energy policy. I also think about it a lot when I look at what the largest environmental and climate non-profits are doing. For this piece I’ll focus on the oil and gas industry. I will follow up with one on the non-profits.

Global oil demand was going to peak very soon even before prices jumped. Last month McKinsey noted that other than for China and Japan, “Oil demand in other countries has remained unchanged since October.”

As I noted in this piece, China was buying oil for storage so demand is actually lower than it seems. Why would they do that?  In light of current events, I think it’s pretty obvious. China is the world’s largest oil importer and they thus want to lessen their exposure to the whims of Trump, Netanyahu and Putin.  And they are rapidly doing just that.

The Trump crime syndicate apparently wants to control the world’s oil resources right when world oil demand is peaking. And their actions will accelerate the move away from oil and their precious LNG. They are fighting the last war and amassing assets that will be worth a lot less in the future.  It makes sense on some level for Trump.  Perhaps on his death bed he can whisper to his dead Nazi dad, “I got it. I got all the oil. Do you love me now?”

Meanwhile, electric vehicles are going to dominate so much faster than most people understand. Latest tech out of China is batteries with 600 mile range that charge in under 10 minutes.

Range anxiety is a thing of the past. Charging times will be a thing of the past. So, electric vehicles will be cheaper, faster and have longer range than fossil-fuel vehicles. Fossil fuel vehicles are a thing of the past.

Smart countries know this. If the world can survive this energy transition and the fossil fuel wars soon to be followed by water wars, the U.S. will have voluntarily relinquished its position as a world leader and handed the keys to China.
